Batavia man arrested following police chase

ORLEANS COUNTY, N.Y. — A Batavia man has been arrested for allegedly stealing a car and fleeing police Monday morning, according to the Genesee County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies say Edward Ruckdeschel, 57, allegedly stole a vehicle from an Orleans County residence. He then led deputies on a car chase, followed by a foot chase in the Town of Wheatland.

Ruckdeschel faces a variety of charges. 

Deputies say Ruckdeschel is being charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree, obstruction of governmental administration in the second degree, aggravated unlicensed operation in the third degree, as well as unauthorized stickers, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, no or inadequate head lamp, side windows non-transparents, failure to yield to the right of way when entering the roadway and unregistered motor vehicle.

Ruckdeschel is scheduled to appear in Bergen Town Court on January 15.
