Amherst Police seek video for clues in crash that injured 6

Accident involving a police vehicle and a carload of students from the University at Buffalo happened just before midnight on Friday.

AMHERST, N.Y. — Amherst police want your help as they look into a crash involving one of their patrol cars and a car-load of UB students. All together there were six people hurt, including the officer, in that collision just before midnight Friday.

According to Captain Kevin Brown, who heads up the accident investigations unit for the Amherst Police, the car carrying the five UB students was travelling northbound on Sweet Home Road as it entered the intersection of Sheridan Drive, when a police officer was traveling westbound on Sheridan in response to a call for a burglary in progress.

"From all indications we have, the officer had their lights and sirens activated at the time," Brown said.

One of the five students was treated and released from ECMC where, according to Brown, four others remained at the hospital as of Monday afternoon.

Three of the students are in stable condition while another remains in critical according to Brown.

In the meantime, Brown says police have canvassed nearby homes and businesses in hopes of obtaining footage from any security cameras that might shed light on how the accident occurred, as well as any dash cam footage motorists who were traveling in the area that night might have.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Amherst Police Department at (716) 689-1311.
