Amherst Police respond to report of shots fired

Police said they have found no evidence of any shots fired and that it is no longer an active scene.

AMHERST, N.Y. — Multiple police officers investigated multiple calls reporting shots fired in Amherst on Sunday afternoon.

Numerous police vehicles were at the scene in the area of Millersport Highway and Campbell Boulevard.

Police say no injuries have been reported, and the source of the disturbance has not yet been determined. They told 2 On Your Side that they have found no evidence of any shots fired and that it is no longer an active scene.

Police said they will continue to investigate.

This comes after an earlier statement where police said there was no immediate threat to the public.

2 On Your Side photojournalist Tyler Weber was on scene and witnessed about 10 police cars and two ambulances at once point, but by 1:15 p.m. many already started to leave.

Police were seen blocking the intersection of Dodge and Millersport, and most officers were in the street in front of and in the parking lot of theWELL Church.

Amherst Police were seen escorting people out of the church and to their cars parked in front of the church. Amherst's Emergency Response Team cleared the building and surrounding area, according to police.

The Amherst Police Department, Amherst Police Emergency Response Team, the Town of Tonawanda Police, the University at Buffalo Police, NFTA Police K-9, and the New York State Police all responded to the call.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Amherst Police Department at (716) 689-1311.
