Ice skating, winter activities cancelled at Canalside this winter

The area will remain open to visitors throughout the winter, but officials ask that visitors adhere to state and local health guidelines.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — With COVID-19 cases on the rise across the county, including here in Western New York, one popular winter attraction won't be happening this year.

The Buffalo Waterfront and the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation says ice skating and other winter activities have been canceled at Canalside this year.

“After careful consideration for the safety and health of our patrons, ECHDC has made the difficult decision to cancel winter activities at Canalside due to COVID-19. Although ice skating and other related activities will not be available, Canalside and the Outer Harbor will remain open for visitors to enjoy throughout the winter. All public health guidelines, including the use of facial coverings and practicing social distancing, must be observed," Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation said in a statement.

The area will remain open to visitors throughout the winter, but ask that visitors adhere to state and local health guidelines.
