Friends use Santa's sleigh to give back

A close group of friends in North Tonawanda are spreading Christmas cheer by singing loud for all to hear.

NORTH TONAWANDA, N.Y. - A close group of friends in North Tonawanda have created a popular neighborhood tradition.

"We were just kinda sitting at a bar one night and said hey let's do something crazy and this is what came out of it," said Organizer Jake Brosious.

The group decided to spread some Christmas cheer by driving around in Santa's sleigh filled with classic holiday characters in the Drake street neighborhood.

"We are on a 25 foot sled passing out Christmas spirit for all the neighbors in the town," said Brosious.

However, more is being done then just passing out smiles to others. The group collects donations for the North Tonawanda food pantry.

"To me that is absolutely so heartwarming when someone is standing at their door with a bag full of canned goods," said Organzier Ben Kanaley.

"It's unbelievable, we collect food pantry items and we got more than 12,000 items last year. It's unbelievable the support we get, it's awesome," said Brosious.

Family and children tell us they look forward to the sight of Santa and his sleigh. "We put a bag of food together and put it out and the trailer comes around and sings and they take the food and donate it - it’s great," said Donor Nicole Walker.

This is the fifth year the group has held the event and they say it keeps growing each year.
