Lake Shore superintendent addresses bathroom escort concerns

He says he's had a positive discussion with the student government about it. A letter will be sent to parents about the policy later this week.

ANGOLA, N.Y. — The superintendent of Lake Shore Schools talked Wednesday, a day after 2 On your Side brought him concerns about a new bathroom policy.

A student and parent both got in touch with us about the rule that requires high school students going to the bathroom during class to get an escort, who would unlock it and stand outside the bathroom.

The superintendent, Charles Galluzzo, said it's in response to vandalism and vaping incidents.

And he says he's had a positive discussion with the student government about it.

"They really feel that Lake Shore is their home away from home, and we feel that way too, and they want other kids to realize that we need to be able to treat our school like we would treat our home," Galluzzo said. "So I think we've had a lot of positive responses from the kids too because they want to feel comfortable using the bathrooms, not worrying about people being in there who's not supposed to be."

The superintendent says there will be a letter going out to parents later this week about the policy.
