Buffalo, N.Y. — Buffalo School Board member Dr. Catherine Flanagan-Priore resigned following Wednesday night's school board meeting.
Buffalo Public School's confirms that Dr. Flanagan-Priore announced her resignation in closed session. She was appointed in September to fill the Park District seat vacated by Carl Paladino.
Her resignation from the board came following a night of heated and emotional conversations about the district's nursing contract.
The board approved a proposal to replace Kaleida nurses with Sunbelt Staffing and Supplemental Health Care.
Five board members approved the proposal, three abstained and Dr. Flanagan-Priore recused herself because of a conflict of interest. Flanagan-Priore is an employee of Kaleida.
The district will open up an application process to fill the empty Park District seat, according to Buffalo Public Schools Chief of Staff Darren Brown.
The board has 30 days to appoint a replacement. After that, the mayor would appoint.
All board seats will be up for reelection in 2019.
