BUFFALO, NY - — The "My Brother's Keeper" Program has launched their second Male Academy summer program.

The program offers 7th and 8th grade boys opportunities to achieve academically. This year's opening ceremony was entitled "Rap City: Lyrics for Life." The students taking part in the program were welcomed and given words of encouragement and inspiration from city leaders like Mayor Byron Brown.

The two-week summer program includes mentoring opportunities and field trip experiences at local cultural institutions. Some of those include the Niagara Falls Underground Railroad Heritage Center and the Seneca-Iroquois National Museum.

Students then engage in a Culturally Responsive Curriculum that specifically focuses on African American, Latino and Native American history and culture through the lens of Hip-Hop literacy.
