BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Boys & Girls Club of Buffalo, which serves the Buffalo School district, is one of 33 programs in NYS that will share $10 million in the Empire State After-School Program.
The Boys & Girls Club of Buffalo will receive $408,000.
"After-school programs help students stay on track and offer a positive and productive place for students to spend their after-school hours, giving parents peace of mind," Governor Cuomo said in a released statement. "By increasing the availability of after-school program slots, we can guide even more students to find the right path to success."
To be eligible for the award, school districts had to adopt a quality learning environment, staff-to-student interaction and student outcomes.
Officials say children who participate in after-school programs have better attendance, higher academic achievement and less likely to be involved in risky behavior after school ends for the day.
