Drought conditions for parts of WNY

Drought conditions have expanded quickly across parts of Western New York

Buffalo, NY — Northern sections of Western New York are in a moderate drought.

That classification was made today by the US Drought Monitor which is a division of the United States Department of Agriculture. The Niagara Frontier from Niagara Falls east through Orleans County and just beyond Rochester has received about 40% of normal rainfall this summer. In fact July has made conditions even worse as the same area has only received about 16% of their normal rainfall for the month of July.

This drought area expanded rather quickly given the wet winter and spring noted in the same area.

Over the next 5 to 6 days minimal rain chances are expected so this drought area is likely to increase.

The long-range outlook is looking promising however as a wetter weather pattern is due to set in by the middle of next week through the end of July..
