BUFFALO, NY--- A Buffalo woman who stabbed her mother more than 40 times, killing her, has been sentenced to prison.
Lashawn Lewis, was sentenced Thursday to 25 years to life in prison for killing her mother Lateyfa Lewis, 50, in August 2005 at her mother's Orange Street home.
“No matter how many years have passed, my office will continue to aggressively investigate and prosecute all cold case homicides committed in Erie County,” said Erie County District Attorney John Flynn in a released statement.
This wasn't the first trial Lewis faced in connection with her mother's death. The jury in the first trial could not reach a verdict.
Lewis spoke in court and denied killing her mother. As she was being led out of the courtroom after her sentencing, Lewis was seen spitting at someone.
