Police search for man who jumped into the river in Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls Fire, US Border Patrol and New York State Parks police assisted Niagara Falls Police in the search.

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — Several law enforcement agencies were out on the Niagara River Tuesday near the north Grand Island bridges searching for a person that reportedly went into the water.

Investigators say a man called them overnight to report someone breaking into his pickup truck on West Rivershore Drive. The man started chasing the suspect, who allegedly jumped into the river to swim towards Buffalo Avenue.

They say based on witness accounts, they aren't sure if the man ever got out of the water. He was last seen in the water near the boat docks on the 7700 block of Buffalo Avenue.

Niagara Falls Fire, US Border Patrol, and New York State Parks police assisted Niagara Falls Police in the search and didn't find anyone, and the investigation continues.
