Buffalo Police investigating shots fired, Kostas patio windows hit by bullets

The restaurant was closed at the time of the incident. Buffalo Police said they were called to the scene Tuesday morning by the owners.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Buffalo Police Department is investigating a shots fired incident that resulted in two windows and the facade at Kostas restaurant on Hertel Avenue being hit by bullets.

The restaurant was closed at the time of the incident and no one was hurt according to a Buffalo Police spokesperson.

The incident reportedly happened overnight Monday.

Buffalo Police were called to investigate Tuesday morning when the owners noticed the damage.

The restaurant's patio windows were taped up and bullet holes marked with neon yellow marker Tuesday afternoon when 2 On Your Side learned about the incident. Adelia Guelia, who lives near Kostas said she was surprised to hear what happened, but did not hear the gunshots overnight.

"We're next to a bunch of bars. We get partiers on the week and stuff, but nothing ever like this. This is really out of place for this area," Guelia said.

On Tuesday, Kostas' was open as usual, even customers exiting the restaurant after lunch said they didn't notice the damage and/or had no idea what happened.

2 On Your Side did reach out seeking comment from the restaurant. We were politely told that there was no additional information available.

The popular and longstanding Hertel establishment remains open for normal service as the investigation continues.

Buffalo Police Commissioner Joseph Gramaglia told 2 On Your Side Tuesday afternoon that video and other evidence were recovered by detectives.

"We are canvassing for more video evidence and we're actively working the case," Gramaglia said.

While slightly nervewracking, Guelia said she doesn't believe this incident reflects the Hertel Avenue neighborhood.
