Amherst man charged with unlawful possession of a machine gun

Rejjie Ni, 22, was arrested and charged Tuesday with having unlawful possession of an unregistered machine gun.

AMHERST, N.Y. — An Amherst man faces 10 years in prison for having unlawful possession of a machine gun, according to the United States Attorney's Office.

Rejjie Ni, 22, was arrested and charged Tuesday with having unlawful possession of an unregistered machine gun. 

Amherst Police Department were called to an apartment complex on Herron Drive on March 18 after a maintenance worker noticed several firearms in Ni's apartment. Officers obtained a search warrant and discovered 33 rifles, two shotguns and several rounds of ammunition. Nineteen rifles and some ammunition was found in Ni's bedroom.

Three guns were confiscated by police because they were believed to be illegal.The U.S. Attorney's office says Ni converted at least one of the firearms into an illegal machine gun.

Ni is currently being held following a detention hearing Tuesday afternoon.
