Russell Salvatore donates $1M for Kaleida patient rooms

Kaleida will use the money to put interactive televisions in patient rooms at Buffalo General, Gates Vascular, Millard Fillmore Suburban and DeGraff Memorial hospitals.

Kaleida Health honored restaurateur and philanthropist Russ Salvatore with a plaque Thursday that recognizes his $1 million gift.

Kaleida will use the money to put interactive televisions in patient rooms at Buffalo General, Gates Vascular, Millard Fillmore Suburban and DeGraff Memorial hospitals.

"When you think about on a daily basis, the patients are in their room being cared for, that television's something that can keep their mind off of what's going on in their daily lives and provide them with a little glimmer of what's going on in the outside world while they're in the hospital," said Chris Lane, president of Buffalo General and Gates Vascular. "So, it's really enormous for our patients."

Salvatore made another half-million dollar gift to put televisions in the new John R. Oishei Children's Hospital last year.
