BUFFALO, NY - One of the many topics Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton touched on during her appearance in Buffalo on Friday was her role in the creation of the Artspace facility on Main Street.
Artspace is a community of artists who enjoy reduced-priced housing through tax deductions. It offers artists a workspace and performance space, and a place to showcase their work.
Similar communities exist in other parts of the country. Clinton made a big push to bring one to Buffalo during her time in the United States Senate.
“She actually helped with the funding,” said Evangeline Barbour, former director of Artspace, “and of course her influence was very much appreciated. She made sure that we were on the straight path to what our goal was."
There are 60 housing units at Buffalo's Artspace which usually has a waiting list of people trying to get in.
