NEW YORK — The New York State Labor Department reported the State's unemployment rate dropped to 4.1% in September. This is the lowest the unemployment rate has been in the state since 1988.
According to the Labor Department, the decrease in unemployment is largely due to the decrease in New York City's unemployment which dropped to 4.0% in September 2018. Another contributing factor is the increase in jobs in the private sector which increased to 8,189,800.
These numbers are partially based on a current population survey and a payroll survey of 18.000 employers conducted by the U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics.
