State attorney general details 2020’s top consumer complaints

Many of the complaints related to fraud stemming from the pandemic.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — New York state Attorney General Letitia James recently outlined the top complaints her office received in 2020 from consumers, many related to fraud stemming from the pandemic. They were:

  1. Internet-Related: Complaints about internet services and service providers, data privacy and security, digital media, data breaches and frauds through internet manipulation (9,832 complaints)
  2. Covid-19 price gouging: Online and brick-and-mortar outlets gouging prices for items such as hand sanitizer, face masks, gloves, bathroom tissue and food (7,701 complaints)
  3. Landlord/tenant disputes: Complaints about harassment from landlords and landlords refusing to release security deposits (2,752 complaints)  You can see the full list on Buffalo Business First's website.
