BUFFALO, N.Y. — Babies are born every day. However, some birth dates are a little more special than others like those born on December 25.
There was a bit of a traffic jam on the fourth-floor maternity ward Tuesday. Seven babies were born on Christmas Day at Mercy Hospital in South Buffalo.
"I started feeling the contractions on Christmas Eve. So I was telling me self, no, these aren't contractions. We're not having a Christmas Day baby," said new mother Taylor Calabro.
And research shows that it is 20% less likely that babies, like little Rosalie, would arrive on days such as Christmas. However, for parents Taylor and Santino Calabro, who are overjoyed, this wasn't even part of their plan.
"She was two weeks early, so we weren't expecting a Christmas baby," Santino.
Just down the hall, the Colvin family welcomed little Sophia with the same thought of trying to miss Christmas as a birthday.
"I want the birth ay to be special, you know, sharing it with such a magical day," mom Stacey Colvin said. "I'm going to have to figure that one out to make it super special, but she's a blessing, and Christmas is a blessing so."
So most holidays see a dip in births, with the exception of Valentine's Day While the final few days of the year have the most births, babies come when they're ready.
