NFTA continues search for 1986 tile artists

About 60 percent of the tiles have been claimed within the last month, but this still leaves about 40 percent of the tiles unclaimed.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Local students were asked to create drawings in 1986, that were then made into ceramic tiles. These tiles hung on two walls of The Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority's headquarters in Western New York, until this year.

The NFTA says that the tiles had to come down this year due to construction, but they would like to return them to their rightful owners.

About 60 percent of the tiles have been claimed within the last month, but this still leaves about 40 percent of the tiles unclaimed.

"It's been incredible, really very emotional. When people see their tiles, it really brings back their past when they were young and they were creating this work of art. That's the beauty of art really," says Helen Tederous, a spokesperson for the NFTA.

The tiles are now available for pick up, but if you are looking to identify your tile you can check out a special display here.

Anyone who recognizes their artwork is asked to email tile@nfta.com with the number and name on the tile, a description of the tile, and times when you would be able to pick it up.
