Giving Opportunities this Giving Season

There are many ways to help our community and those in it this holiday season, from donating, to volunteering your time, and more.

Thanksgiving is this Thursday, and 'tis the season for giving. There are many ways to donate or volunteer locally, to help our community this holiday season.

For the YMCA Buffalo Niagara Turkey Trot this Thanksgiving Thursday, participants are encouraged to donate two cans of non-perishable food items, for Food To Families to benefit the Food Bank of WNY. Those can be dropped off at race packet pick up this week.

2 On Your Side is a proud sponsor of the Turkey Trot - and we're also holding our annual Food 2 Families food drive Friday, November 30th. You can pick up Brown Bags of Hope at Tops Markets right now - they're filled with food for the Food Bank of Western New York. You can purchase them at the register for five, 10, or 20 dollar bags.

Also, Food Bank of WNY, can set up a time to sort food with family or friends this holiday season.

There's #WarmUpWNY Blanket Drive. The United Way of Buffalo and Erie County (UWBEC) is a collection site in addition to a number of other organizations in the area.

Ongoing food serving/meal prep opportunities usually have a need for volunteers especially over winter season, like Meals on Wheels, Friends of Night People, Community Missions of Niagara Frontier, and Matt Urban Hope Center.

There are Turkey Express and Buffalo City Mission volunteer opportunities, and you can also check in with different local agencies to see how you can help volunteer/donate such as Child and Family Services, Gateway Longview, New Directions, Gerard Place, Heart Love and Soul, City Mission, Harvest House, Baker Victory, and Pinnacle in Niagara County.

The Salvation Army of Buffalo has many volunteer opportunities, such as Bell Ringing, Golden Age Senior Center, Street Feed Program, meals, etc.

Individuals seeking volunteer opportunities are encouraged to visit VolunteerWNY.org which is a free site powered by UWBEC and The Service Collaborative of WNY. It allows individuals to search for volunteer opportunities throughout WNY.
