BUFFALO, NY, The Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) has announced its Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards for 2018 and WGRZ (wgrz.com) has been honored with seven awards.
The Regional Murrow Awards are a recognition of outstanding journalism in 2017 year.
WGRZ-TV was awarded Regional Murrow Awards in the following seven categories:
1. Overall Excellence (Staff)
2. Continuing Coverage: Craig Lehner (Staff)
3. Innovation: Blizzard of 77 (Heather Waldman, Jamie Conley, Michael Wooten, TEGNA)
4. Writing: Dave McKinley
5. Hard News: Fredonia Water (Reporter: Steve Brown, Photographer: Dave Harrington)
6. Sports: Under the Helmet (Reporter: Melissa Holmes, Photographer: Bob Mancuso)
7. Website: WGRZ.com (Staff)
The seven awards are the most WGRZ has received since 2011. This is the third year in a row WGRZ.com has won for best website. This is second year in a row WGRZ has won for Overall Excellence.
WGRZ (owned by TEGNA) competes with small market television stations from New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The regional winners now move to the national competition.
