The Daybreak Team Sings Schoolhouse Rock

We're not saying Kate Welshofer purposely chooses trending stories that incite bad jokes, worse singing and jazz hands...no, wait. That's exactly what we're saying. Here's why you'll be talking about today's trending all day.

Jazz hands made a record second appearance on Daybreak this week. You'll find out why, but first, late night TV sheds some new light on a primetime controversy.

While you may have been sleeping last night, Hank Azaria was on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert talking about the controversy surrounding the character of Apu on The Simpsons. Azaria voices the character which was the subject of a recent documentary called The Problem with Apu, which criticizes the portrayal as a stereotype.

Azaria said his eyes have been opened as a result of the doc. He believes the most important thing is to listen to South Asian and Indian people in America about their experience here in the U.S. As for the future of Apu, he advocated for more Indian and South Asian representation in the writers room in terms of how the character is portrayed and voiced or not voiced and said if asked, he is perfectly willing to step aside, saying it would be the right thing to do.

Another controversy in Florida has some saying Let it Van Gogh already!

A couple in Mount Dora painted their house, the whole thing (and it is not a small house) to look like

Vincent Van Gogh's Starry Night They've been cited by the city for a graffiti violation. The fine is close to $11,000.

Besides being fans of Van Gogh, the couple says they want their house to serve as a beacon for their son, who is autistic, in the event he wanders away. The neighbors are sort of split on how they feel about it. Some love it, others...not so much. The couple is fighting back with a lawsuit in federal court saying the city is violating their right of freedom of expression.

A sad goodbye from your Saturday morning cartoon memories. Schoolhouse Rock composer Bob Dorough has died. The Arizona jazz musician helped a generation of kids learn everything from their multiplication tables to adverbs and the preamble to the U.S. Constitution. He made three the magic number and introduced us to Interplanet Janet.

Schoolhouse Rock aired between 1973 and 1985. Dorough was 94.

The Daybreak teams shared and sang some of their favorites. Next stop? The Daybreak Album.
