Canalside carousel groundbreaking on Friday

The ceremony, at a site near Clinton's Dish, will take place Friday afternoon.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — After being postponed, the groundbreaking ceremony for Buffalo Heritage Carousel at Canalside will happen Friday afternoon.

Officials were set to gather for a ground-breaking at the future home of the Buffalo Heritage Carousel on Wednesday morning, but it was postponed due the weather.

The Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation gave the green light Tuesday for work to begin on the carousel. The new building is scheduled to open next summer next to Clinton's Dish.

It will be octagonal, with glass windows on the sides and solar panels on the roof. Inside, a historic, refurbished carousel with dozens of horses and other animals will operate during the summer months. Rides will cost one dollar each.

The groundbreaking ceremony is set for 2:30 p.m. Friday.
