BUFFALO, N.Y. — Liz Lewin is multi-skilled journalist for WGRZ-TV in Buffalo, NY.
Liz is a proud Buffalonian, born and raised in the heart of North Buffalo. She is a graduate of Elmwood Franklin School and Buffalo Seminary. Her love for an “audience” started at a very young age, she started performing at Studio Arena at the age of 5 and her love for theater carried her all the way to Fordham University in New York City, where she was one of thousands who auditioned to get accepted in to the acclaimed theater program.
After being accepted, Liz’s love for communicating messages to a broader audience grew even stronger. Eventually, she made the decision to change her major to Communications & Media Studies and says that was the best decision she ever made, though she didn't know it at the time.
After graduating from Fordham, Liz returned to Buffalo to explore a new passion - Journalism. She worked for four years at Buffalo State College as a reporter and producer of the Athletic program’s show, “Bengal Magazine”. After which she decided to fine-tune her skills at Syracuse University’s Newhouse School of Public Communications where she focused on Broadcast and Digital Journalism.
Upon leaving Newhouse, Liz returned to Buffalo and re-started her career in Communications. She worked as a Communications Specialist in Mayor Byron Brown’s Office of Communications where she wrote, reported and produced a new show called, “Buffalo: Youth is Our Future.” After leaving City Hall, she freelanced at WKBW in Buffalo as a reporter, before leaving Buffalo to spend time with her sister in Boston.
Upon returning, Liz returned to WKBW where she worked as a reporter and anchor. A few years later, Liz worked in Lansing, MI where she worked as a Weekend and Morning Anchor at WILX. In 2018, She eventually returned to her beloved Buffalo to start a new adventure in Public Relations as a PR Manager at The Martin Group.
While she loved her experience, COVID-19 made one thing extremely clear - television is where she belongs. Liz is proud to be a member of the 2 On Your Side team.
Her passion for Buffalo runs deep, as does her passion for her culture. A proud Latina, Liz grew up in a bilingual, bicultural home and attributes her experiences as the lens through which she sees the world. As a journalist, Liz says, her goal, more than anything is to identify the silence and the struggles in her community and to give them a voice and a platform.
When she’s not working, Liz loves spending time with her family, friends, and of course her pup, Halo Olivia. She is a longtime volunteer and advocate of: The Buffalo Urban League, WNY Women's Foundation and Roswell Park Alliance Foundation. She is also a member of the Buffalo Chapter of the NABJ.
