BUFFALO, N.Y. — Alexandra Rios is a bilingual (English/Spanish) multi-skilled journalist for WGRZ-TV in Buffalo, NY.
Alex is a Georgia peach. She grew up in small-town Swainsboro, Georgia. However, her family is from Aguascalientes, Mexico. She spends almost every summer in Latin America. She is so proud to be Latina.
A graduate of the University of Georgia’s Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication and East Georgia State College, Alexandra is the former reporter for Grady Newsource. Originally from South Georgia, she interned with WALB-TV in Albany, Georgia. She also studied journalism abroad in Germany.
In January 2020, she moved thousands of miles across the country to report for NBC Right Now (KNDU/KNDO-TV) based in Tri-Cities, Washington. She was a reporter for WakeUp Northwest and occasionally appeared on Telemundo Yakima/Tri-Cities (en Español.) She reported live on community events and breaking news. This includes the US presidential elections 2020, state/local politics, coronavirus and Black Lives Matter movement. In September 2020, Alex reported for Wake Up Northwest's team coverage of the devastating Washington wildfire season, which was later nominated for an Emmy Award in NATAS Northwest's Morning/Daytime News, Markets 81+ category.
She is currently a member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists and National Press Photographers Association.
When Alex isn’t at work, Alex is probably making Mexican/Indian food, drinking coffee/chai or learning Hindi. She hopes to speak fluent Hindi one day. She loves taking pictures, and now videos (thanks to Tik Tok.) She also loves traveling and has been to five different countries. Although she is thousands of miles away from home, Alex is very happy to be experiencing life in a new place.
