BUFFALO, N.Y.-The Sabres continue to get their injured players back in the lineup and forward Drew Stafford maybe the next player to return to the ice. Stafford suffered an upper body injury against Minnesota on New Year's Day and has been out since however he did skate with the team Monday morning at the First Niagara Center.
Sabres Getting Healthier
Stafford who wore a red non contact jersey at practice this morning said "its more of a day to-day kind of thing. I've been feeling really good the last couple days.I had a really long day today, hard working day today. We'll see how it responds later today and tomorrow morning. That's pretty much where we're at." Head coach Ted Nolan said after practice that he's "not 100 per cent certain about tomorrow but that Stafford is real close." Ville Leino and Cody Hodgson returned to the lineup Sunday against Washington.
Sunday's win at Washington was the team's first road win since Nolan took over for Ron Rolston in November. It ended and 11 game road losing streak. The last time the Sabres won a road game was at San Jose all the way back on November 5th. Nolan said he was impressed by well the whole team play Sunday. It's nice to win any time, but I didn't realize we didn't win on the road for that long, The guys sure knew. It's not where we won, but how we won last night. I thought it was a real total team effort from the 20th guy to our goaltenders, right through the lineup, everybody contributed. Since I've been here, it was probably the best win as a team that we had."
Goaltender Ryan Miller continues his amazing play. With 2:14 left in regulation Sunday he made a highlight reel save on
Mikhail Grabovski to keep the game tied at one. Miller is enjoying the best ten game stretch of his career with a save percentage of .950. Asked about Miller's play Nolan said "Out of this world, maybe.I don't know. His last two starts and every game he's played here since I've been here have been outstanding." Nolan added that the save on Grabovski was "one for the ages."
The Sabres are home Tuesday night against the Philadelphia Flyers. Face off is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
