LANCASTER, NY- As Jim Kelly continues to recover from his cancer treatments, his daughter Erin shared a message Saturday about the challenges her family has faced.
Erin Kelly said, "It was really hard and we didn't know what the treatment was going to be like for him or how he would react to it. So it was really hard as a little girl to watch him struggle."
Erin Kelly explains that it has been difficult watching her dad Jim Kelly deal with cancer.
Kelly said, "I think he's a little bit stronger every day. He takes little steps to ultimately get his strength back because he is very weak still and he hasn't had his energy for some time, but he's working through that."
Jim Kelly recently started eating by mouth again after being on a feeding tube. Saturday, Erin Kelly shared her message of hope to help others at HopeFest.
"My message is that I hope people realize the true hope that my family has that, we are believers in Christ, God is good and that he is alive and he is who he says he is.
Erin Kelly spoke at HopeFest to young teens and adults about her journey so far and how she's gotten through hardships. Erin Kelly's faith has not only helped her deal with her father's cancer diagnosis, but also the loss of her little brother who passed away from a rare fatal nervous system disease.
Erin Kelly said, "It was hard as a younger girl watching your brother struggle through disease. He was on oxygen, he couldn't eat on his own, and he couldn't walk or smile. So that was hard being his big sister. I learned so much through him because he taught me what it looks like to find your strength in something other than yourself."
