INDIANAPOLIS, IN- On the first day of the 2014 NFL Combine, the last question Buffalo Bills head coach Doug Marrone received at the podium was about the future of safety Jairus Byrd.

Marrone said that was a question for general manager Doug Whaley or Byrd himself. Sure enough, on Friday, Whaley provided an update on the Byrd negotiations.

Whaley said on WGR 550 that Byrd is an exceptional player on the field and exceptional person off it. He added, they will try to keep him in a Bills uniform.

Whaley and the Bills are expected to meet with Byrd's camp, including agent Eugene Parker, on Saturday.
