BUFFALO, NY- Twenty baseball and softball games were cancelled this week in Buffalo because of extremely saturated fields.
Excessive amounts of precipitation coupled with an especially tough winter put preparation of these fields on hold.
The fields need to be fully thawed in order to be fully functional, Commissioner of Public Works Steve Stepniak explained. Since the thaw is happening about two of three wakes later than it normally is, Stepniak announced the season will be delayed until after Easter break.
"We will have these things, Mother Nature permitting, up as soon as possible" Stepniak said, "We just did not wanna do more damage. we would recommend anyone in those areas, please stay off those fields. Let them dry out properly so we can get in there and make them right."
Waiting to use the fields will prevent damage and give the Department of Public Works time to get the 53 fields under their jurisdiction up to par before the baseball and softball players return from Easter break.
