Buffalo, NY - Buffalo Developer Carl Paladino is keeping his options open and may run for governor again. But recently, Paladino was approached to run for state comptroller on the Republican ticket.

"Have you been approached to run for State Comptroller?" asked Channel 2's Kelly Dudzik

"At the time I was approached, it obviously was coming from people who wanted to distract me from running for Governor. I have no interest in running for NYS Comptroller," says Paladino.

The developer, and 2010 Republican gubernatorial candidate, has not been shy about his support for Donald Trump's potential 2014 run against Governor Cuomo. Trump, who was just in Western New York last Friday, has not made a decision yet on whether to run.

"Are you confident that Donald Trump will run for Governor?" asked Dudzik.

"I am confident, yes," said Paladino.

"So that means that you wouldn't run for Governor. Would that mean then that you would be interested in running for Comptroller?" asked Dudzik.

"No, I have no interest in running for Comptroller. I'm explaining to you the context that that was made. They wanted to get me out of the way. Okay? Well, I don't get out of the way. I just stand in the way," said Paladino. "If Donald Trump decided not to run, and Rob Astorino refuses to denounce the RINOs in the party, in other words, cleanse the Republican Party, then I will seriously think about running at that point for Governor."

"Do you think there are certain people in the Republican Party who fear that you will run on the Conservative line and take votes away from the Republicans?" asked Dudzik.

"Those people should grow up, okay? Those people should get themselves a crystal ball, or whatever it's going to take, to get them to understand the intricacies of what I said. I want, more than anything, to replace the Democrats in control of our state government," said Paladino.

We contacted the New York State GOP to ask Party Chairman Ed Cox for his thoughts on whether Paladino should run for comptroller, but we did not get a response.
