BUFFALO, NY - This week's Unique Place is the West Side Pet Clinic. It is a new low cost clinic that just opened in Buffalo.
For Dr. Susan Sickels, opening the West Side Pet Clinic is a dream come true.
"How did you come up with the concept?" asked Channel 2's Kelly Dudzik.
"Truthfully, this is a mixture of a business decision and a faith decision. We decided that we saw a great need over here on the West Side. A lot of animals that weren't vaccinated, and we wanted to find a way to get those animals vaccinated," says Sickels.
It is a wellness clinic. The goal is high quality care at a low cost.
"I think there might be people who say that animals are a luxury. And I think sometimes on the West Side and the East Side of Buffalo they are not a luxury. Sometimes, that animal is the only thing a person sees when they come home from a long day of work. There are no family support systems, that animal is it. And if we can support that one animal connection, that one loving being, that that person has, to me, that's what my faith calls me to do," she says.
There is even a waiting room webcam. Dr. Sickels says if it's empty, you know you'll be the next one to be seen.
You don't need an appointment. You can find the clinic at 1245 Niagara Street in Buffalo. It is open weekdays from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.
