TOWN OF TONAWANDA - The New York State Department of Transportation announced lane closures scheduled for Sunday, January 26 from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. on the 290 westbound near exit 1, Delaware Ave.
This comes after a large piece of concrete that came out of a bridge joint in the left lane accounted for a series of flat tires and traffic delays on Thursday morning.
Concrete and other materials from a faulty bridge joint caused back-ups during Thursday morning commute.
Cars with flat tires pulled over on both shoulders of the road near Delaware Avenue. Tonawanda Police say 15 to 16 cars had flat tires and were not drivable after they crossed the part of the road where material from the bridge joint came dislodged and left a gap.
Traffic was backed up to Colvin Avenue.
New York State Department of Transportation officials said those with flat tires should contact their claims unit by phone at (716) 847-3173. If no one answers, you must leave a detailed message.
Motorists should expect delays in the area during the scheduled maintenance times.
