BUFFALO, NY – Earlier this week we introduced you to Syd Cole of North Buffalo, a man who turned 100 on Sunday. He has a pretty incredible story to tell.
When Cole was a pilot during World War II he was shot down over Germany and taken prisoner for several months. Toward the end of the war, his camp was liberated by the Russians and he returned home to Buffalo.
On Sunday he celebrated his birthday at Banchetti's Restaurant in Amherst with family and friends, and shared his story with 2 On Your Side photojournalist Franco Ardito.
