SANBORN, NY – Two On Your Side General Manager and President Jim Toellner delivered the 50th annual commencement speech at Niagara County Community College on Saturday before an audience of about 1,500 students, faculty and family members.
"The only way to accomplish anything is to plot your course, to make a difference," Toellner told the 361 members of the 2014 graduating class. The theme of his address was "Succeed, Lead, and Make a Difference."
A native of North Tonawanda, Toellner graduated from NCCC in 1978 and from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1981. He has been president and general manager of WGRZ-TV since 2003, having served as general sales manager since 2001. Prior to managing sales at WGRZ-TV, he was general sales manager at WOOD-TV in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He began his career at the Buffalo News as an account executive and later as a sales manager before moving to television, holding positions at the local ABC and CBS affiliates as account executive, local sales manager and national sales manager.
During his tenure at WGRZ, the Gannett-owned NBC affiliate in Buffalo, has gone from last place to first place in audience and revenues in the market.
NCCC President Dr. James P. Klyczek, Trustee Gina I. Virtuoso and Trustee James W. Ward presented diplomas at Saturday's ceremony. The master of ceremonies was Board Chairperson Henry F. Wojtaszek. Also participating in the program were Board of Trustee members Vincent R. Ginestre, Kevin C. Schuler, Sheila Smith and Malcolm Needler.
