BLASDELL, N.Y. -- An overnight fire destroyed the Olive Garden restaurant near the McKinley Mall.
Firefighters say they were called to the scene shortly after 1 a.m. and found flames shooting through the roof.
Seven different fire companies battled the flames as well as the thick smoke.
Firefighters worked late into the morning trying to put out hot spots.
Crews also brought in heavy equipment to knock down some walls as they worked to get the fire completely out.
Officials on scene told 2 On Your Side that all employees had left the building about an hour before the fire started. Nobody was hurt.
By late morning, current and former employees were stopping by to look at the damage left behind. Officers put up police tape to keep people away but said that is not an indication there was any crime.
At this point, it's unclear what started the fire.
A spokesperson for Orlando-based Darden Restaurants (Olive Garden's parent company) issued the following statement on Saturday:
We are extremely thankful no one was inside the restaurant at the time of the fire. We appreciate the efforts of the Blasdell firefighters and are grateful they are all safe. Right now, the well-being of our team members is our number one priority. We are already working to place them at other Olive Garden locations, as well as other Darden restaurants, in the area, as we assess the damage to the restaurant.
