HAMBURG, NY - Congratulations go out to the man who's spent a long time helping keep Western New York safe from the skies.
A retirement party at Brierwood Country Club in Hamburg Saturday night celebrated the career of Erie County Sheriff's Office pilot, Captain Kevin Caffery.
He piloted the Air One helicopter for 25 years before retiring earlier this year after a law enforcement career spanning more than four decades.
"The flight crews, the men and women that worked with me were absolutely unbelievable," Caffery told us, "and they deserve the credit. They were the ones that were jumping out of the helicopter; they were the ones that were running the rescue equipment; and I felt bad a lot of times that I'd get the publicity and they didn't."
Caffery says he plans to do some traveling and will help train police pilots around the country.
