BUFFALO, NY - On Friday, officials formally announced the opening of a new building called "One Canalside" on Buffalo's Waterfront.

The Donovan Building is its old name.

One Canalside is its new name.

The building has been revamped and now consists of a hotel and a law firm. One Canalside is just one key project that's changing the map of Buffalo's Waterfront. Another big project -- the canals, which are under construction and nearing completion.

Two out of three bridges have been installed and a third one is on the way later on this year and officials say this winter there will be ice skating there.

"How do you keep it active, how do you bring people down to do multiple things, whether it's ice skating, whether it's curling, whether its broomball, have all sort of different events [these are things we're working on]," said Tom Dee, the president of the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corp.

Canalside officials say in the warmer months, water will flow through the canals. Another key project -- a Children's Museum. Officials are in the planning phase of building this project. The museum would be located next to the canals and should be done by the end of 2016. A restaurant would go there too.

"The public is saying it doesn't feel like Buffalo, the public is saying 'I'd never think I'd see this in my lifetime' and the one I was most impressed with last week when somebody talked to me and they feel like a tourist in their own town," Dee said.

The canals, HarborCenter, and eventually the Children's Museum will all add to what's already happening at Canalside. And here's another project, remember a couple years ago when the grain elevators near Gallagher Beach were lit up?

That light show could become a permanent attraction in the city. Officials say they will soon decide on a company to build the light show. Officials with the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation say next week the light show project will be voted on. That project should be done by the beginning of next summer.
