Buffalo, NY - The 3 on 3 Gus Macker Tournament is still on for this year, but it is moving to a new location.

Darien Lake will host this year's Gus Macker. A source tells 2 On Your Side the Buffalo Police Athletic League, City of Buffalo and Darien Lake have reached an agreement to move the Gus Macker basketball tournament from Buffalo to Darien Lake.

Buffalo City Council President Darius Pridgen told 2 On Your Side he has learned that it was a cost issue for the Buffalo PAL organization which used the annual tournament, traditionally held in late June, as a fundraiser. "What I heard is that the organization, of course this is not the city that put this on, but that the organization that was putting it on, that they weren't making the profit margin that they needed to make by having it downtown. They weren't really making any money at all. So it started to become more of a public service than it was a fundraiser, which is really what it was. But it ended up being a public service I think for people in the city of Buffalo and the people in the suburbs who did come into the city. So it's almost like seeing the Taste of Buffalo not happening...it became kind of an institution."

Police Athletic League Executive Director Maurice Cox says he'll hold his comments until sometime next week. And as for Scott McNeal , who runs the nationwide Macker tournament from Michigan, he will only say no agreement has been signed yet for a tournament in Western New York, that he does understand the frustration of players and that he may have something more to say soon about this situation.

Darien Lake's PR firm, Tipping Point Communications, says it has nothing to confirm about Gus Macker moving to the theme park.

A news conference is expected next week to make this official. A date has not been announced.
