Byron Brown says Deputy Commissioner of Operations Vincent Guliuzza failed to control spiraling overtime costs
BUFFALO, NY - Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown confirms he's seeking a change in the upper echelon of the city's fire department.
Brown has asked for the resignation of Vincent Gugliuzza, whom Brown appointed to the post of Deputy Commissioner of Operations in 2010.
Part of the job, according to Brown, was to control spiraling overtime costs, and the mayor says, Guliuzza wasn't getting the job done.
"Those concerns had been expressed over a period of time , and had not been addressed to my satisfaction , and the resignation was requested," Brown told reporters on Tuesday.
However, the firefighters union blames the Brown administration for the high cost of overtime...claiming it has failed to hire new firefighters, for what the union claims are close to 100 positions which should be filled to bring staffing to needed levels.
