Buffalo, NY - Parents waited for hours to see their children Thursday after a lockdown at Harvey Austin Elementary School.

At Channel 2 we have decided that we are not going to show any faces of the children involved in the lockdown because of the sensitivity of the situation.

We did speak with several parents on and off camera who were not happy with the way things were handled.

"When it comes to my child, you need to tell me something, and I got nothing. I got to stand up here for five and a half hours and cry and worry about if I was going to see my child or not," says parent Melissa Maye.

"We're calm now, but they need to set up a system directly to the parents when a situation jumps off like this," says grandmother Eileen Cotton.

A mother and grandmother of children put on lockdown at Harvey Austin Elementary School have a difference of opinion when it comes to how police and the school district handled the situation.

"I think it was very unprofessional the way how they had everything. I didn't get no phone call. I didn't get anything from the school. The school didn't even want to answer the phone," says Maye.

"Y'all did a good job, but y'all still need to step up and notify parents a little more better," says Cotton.

Parents waited out in the cold, and in their cars, for several hours before buses carrying the children arrived at School 91. Many of the parents grew frustrated as it got later and later because they felt information about what was happening was not forthcoming. But, by seven o'clock, families were reunited and everyone was just glad no one was hurt and they could go home.

"I just thank God that not just my kids, but that everybody's kids are safe," says Maye.

"They had a long day. This one's going to take a bath and go to bed," said Cotton.

Maye says she is not sending her 11-year-old to school Friday. She is demanding tighter security in the building before she sends her daughter back.
