AMHERST, NY - An attempted robbery near UB's North Campus Tuesday night caused police to issue a shelter in place warning for nearly two hours.

Police lifted the warning at 1:33 a.m. after they say they believe the suspects left campus.

Amherst police say three dark skinned males in dark clothing attempted a robbery in apartments off of Sweet Home Road.

One of the suspects displayed what police said appeared to be a handgun.

According to police, the suspects escaped into a vehicle where they followed by the victim. Once the suspects realized they were being followed they abandoned the vehicle near the Hadley Village Apartments and fled on foot towards Audubon Parkway.

Police say they have located what they believe is an air pistol in the bushes near Hadley Village.
