LACKAWANNA, N.Y. - A 42-year-old woman has died after firefighters pulled her from a burning home early Wednesday morning.

The fire started around 6 a.m. on the second floor of a two-family home on Kirby Avenue near South Park Avenue. Firefighters say there was heavy smoke and fire in the kitchen when they arrived.

Chief Ralph Galanti tells 2 On Your Side the woman was found unresponsive in the living room near a window, and they believe she may have been trying to escape.

She was first taken to Mercy Hospital in South Buffalo. Galanit says she died late Wednesday night.

Two people living in the downstairs apartment made it out safely.

Fire investigators are trying to determine an exact cause, but they believe the fire was electrical in nature.
