Good Neighbor, Larry Williams, is now in need of some good neighbors of his own to step up and donate to his 5th annual Kids Day Event. He's in need of volunteers, funding, food and more.
The president of the Glenwood Block Club on Buffalo's east side has been dedicated to improving his neighborhood and those who live there, but now he needs a little help in return.
A few weeks ago, Two On Your Side introduced you to "Good Neighbor" Larry Williams, who takes donations from companies like Home Depot and gives them to neighbors in need. He also grows a community garden and gives the vegetables to families who need them.
Now Williams is planning his 5th annual "Kids Day" event. It's a safe back-to-school sendoff for about 150 kids in the MLK Park neighborhood. They play games, eat, have face-painting, clowns, and a basketball and chess tournament, all as a thank you for behaving themselves and being helpful during the summer. But this year, Williams is coming up short on donations.
"It's getting a little difficult. But a promise is a promise. And you have to teach kids to be honorable. If you make a commitment to them, you have to follow through on it. They followed through on their commitment and I'm going to follow through on mine, even if it means it's coming out of my own pocket," said Williams.
Williams is in need of volunteers, food, trophies, 32 t-shirts in different colors for the basketball tournament, and especially funding. If you'd like to help with Kids Day on August 23, contact Larry Williams at (716) 465-3153 or e-mail GlenwoodBlockClub@yahoo.com .
