BUFFALO, NY - Two On Your Side is proud to announce the station won five regional Edward R. Murrow awards on Tuesday, including the award for Overall Excellence for a fourth year in a row.
The five awards for WGRZ are the most of any station in the Buffalo market.
Two On Your Side's Scott Brown along with photojournalists Scott May and Dave Harrington won the award for Video Hard News with a story about Kendra Webdale's killer. The story featured a jailhouse interview with Andrew Goldstein, a schizophrenic who had stopped taking his medication and had a history of violence. Goldstein pushed Webdale, a Fredonia native in front of an approaching New York City subway train, killing her.
Jonah Javad and photojournalist Ben Read won the award for Sports Reporting with the story titled "Timeless Touchdown." The story profiles a Springville-Griffith High School student who loves football but suffers from cerebral palsy. Despite his limitations, the student got a chance to play and what happened on the field was a moment many will never forget.
Adam Benigni and photojournalist Andy Desantis won the Documentary award for the hour long special titled "Wilson: The life, impact and Living Legacy of Ralph C. Wilson Jr." The documentary focused on all aspects of the now deceased Buffalo Bills owner.
