BUFFALO, N.Y. - Jim and Jill Kelly had hoped to spend Easter back home in Western New York, but instead the couple will remain in New York City as Jim continues his battle with cancer.
Jill Kelly posted a photo of Bruce Smith and Jim together with the message: "Thinking about moments like this one. Knowing that as we sit here in the hospital we're still making moments...and smiling even in the midst of pain and struggle! Better days are coming! #prayersforJK.
Earlier in the week, Jill had said that the Kellys would be coming home for Easter, but plans changed.
One of the Kellys' Pastors, Rich George of the Chapel at Crosspoint says he spoke with the Kellys on Wednesday.
The pastor says Jim came down with strep throat, and that combined with the radiation he's receiving, has left him unable to travel so he'll remain at Lenox HIll hospital in New York on the advice of his doctors.
Pastor Rich George: "I think they just don't want to take a chance. I think this is a better protective environment for the sake of not being vulnerable with any more complications physically, you know with lots of other people around it's probably a safety net."
Jim has now completed two weeks of chemotherapy and radiation.
The pastor says the Kellys are on a long, painful journey but that they're hanging in there.
The pastor asked people to continue to pray for Jim.
