BUFFALO, NY- There are only a few days left to donate to Melissa's Community Baby Shower. All of your generous gifts of baby supplies will go to moms and children at Haven House. It's a place where victims of domestic violence can find a new start.

Mother of five, Louise Krolikowski, says she spent 29 years in an abusive marriage. There was some physical abuse, but Krolikowski says the majority was psychological and emotional abuse. She felt she had no choice but to stay with her husband.

"I was afraid that had I done something sooner, that my children would have suffered. Granted, staying in that situation they did suffer. But at the time you do what you think is best," she said.

But in 2010 Louise made a very frightening, yet very brave decision.

"I'm done and I'm going to move on and I'm going to hopefully let my children move on with their lives as well, and they have," she said.

When Louise finally filed for divorce, she was connected with Haven House services. She did not need the shelter, but she relied on Haven House for advocacy and counseling.

"It allows me to realize that I can do it on my own, I can survive. And it also allows me to share what I've learned with other women."

Through Daybreak anchor Melissa Holmes' Community Baby Shower, gifts of diapers, wipes, bottles, onesies and other new items will make a huge difference for Western New York's most innocent victims.

Louise herself may not have needed the items 2 on Your Side is collecting for the Community Baby Shower, but as a domestic violence survivor she knows what a difference those gifts will make.

"It shows me that people do care. People don't want to see women abused. And they want to do whatever they can to help them get out of that situation and get on with their lives."
