BUFFALO – A West Seneca family is still trying to get over the amount of damage caused by the recent flood that filled their entire basement to the ceiling. They shared the shocking experience they caught on tape with 2 on your side.
You can't quite imagine a flood taking over your basement until it happens.
"You have to be kidding me right now, I don't know what to do," Dan Hudson said in a video he recorded during the flood.
The water burst through the basement windows and caused parts of the ceiling to collapse.
"I have no idea where this water is coming from -- Oh my god, oh my god."
As the Hudson's stepped outside, the couple saw the neighborhood street transformed into fast moving water. The hudson's said there were cars floating down the road.
."Oh my gosh, we're in really big trouble," Dan Hudson said in the video.
It's a scene this West Seneca family is still dealing with.
"Scared – it was the most helpless feeling anybody could ever have," Wendy Hudson said.
The Hudson's are thankful no one in their home was hurt, but they are left with $125,000 dollars of damage after their basement filled to the top with water.
"All appliances, washer dryers, our freezer had foot in it," Dan Hudson said as he described items destroyed.
Parts of the homes foundation are cracked. Now, the family finds comfort in rooms still put together.
"I tell yeah, my friends and family ask what can we do - we still don't know -- I mean what you can do."
The family is still without a working furnace and they are dealing with several insurance claims from their vehicles to items in the basement.
So they can get back to living in a place they call home.
"You try so hard to protect everything you've worked so hard for -- your home you work hard for it," Wendy Hudson said. "Watching it be destroyed that quickly and knowing there's nothing you can do about it."
