A Western New York teacher has been awarded the Grammy's first Music Educator Award.

Kent Knappenberger of Westfield Academy and Central School in Westfield was announced Monday as recipient of the first annual Music Educator Award presented by The Recording Academy and the GRAMMY Foundation.

2 On Your Side profiled Knappenberger following his nomination.

According to the Grammys' website, nine music teachers from around the United States were in the running for the award. In total, more than 30,000 initial nominations were submitted from all 50 states.

Knappenberger, and the other finalists, receive $1,000, and Westfield Academy and Central School will also receive a matching grant.
