Thousands of National Grid customers in Batavia lost power Wednesday afternoon.
Company spokesman Steve Brady said about 7,800 National Grid customers in the city and town of Batavia lost power after a a damaged breaker disrupted service to a substation that serves Genesee County communities around 1 p.m.
Power was restored to all of the affected customers by 2:50 p.m., he said. It appeared that water damaged a switch gear in the substation following this week's wintry, windy weather.
Though not as chilly as Tuesday's subzero temperatures, Batavia remained cold Wednesday with temps in the mid-teens. With the wind chill, however, it felt more like single digits, according to the National Weather Service in Buffalo.
